the BREEZE
March 2024
It’s the wearin’ of the GREEN with Spring on its way. Hope you’re ready
for this month. Spring is a time of renewal when the cold and dismal winter
melts away to a vibrant green day—at least for us in the PNW. Spring is a
welcome change!
Good news too—since we have a leap year, we start a day earlier—well
sort of. Spring really starts at 11:06 p.m. EDT on March 19. It is a little over
a week after daylight saving time begins. This is also known as the vernal
equinox.
Just note: Spring ends on Thursday, June 20, 2024—the summer
solstice and the longest day of the year with the largest amount of sunlight.
We are ready for some warmer, sunny days!

NEWS OF MEMBERS AND FRIENDS
Lucky for her!! KAREN LABUHN enjoyed almost two weeks on the big
island of Hawaii with friends from Whidbey Island who also have a home
there. She looked forward to the good times with them and the great
weather.
Enjoying their time in the desert near Palm Springs are JOHN and
TEDDY REES. They love the warm weather and getting to see their friends
who also return from around the country and Canada. TEDDY has become
a player to watch on the pickleball courts.
ALICE THULL is recovering from surgery to do a revision of her left knee
replacement one month ago. She’s doing well now but had much pain after
the operation. She also was really tired. She’s back to seeing her
counseling clients and on her way to feeling well. We wish her the best!
We extend our sympathy to TOM YOUNG III and his family on the
passing of SUSAN YOUNG, a wonderful wife and mother. She was a
beautiful knitter and like MARY ELLEN JONES, didn’t even have to look at
the stitches on the needles. TOM will be sending us SUSAN’S obituary.
She was a library lady who loved books. He is an old coach for many with
baseball players. He’s disappointed the Pac 12 is no longer alive and well.
He is not alone. There are other members who share his thoughts.
Former member and friend of the Club, JILL PRATER was planning to be
in the area during February. She is now in Las Vegas and will be back in the
late summer to enjoy part of the time with her brother, his wife and their
family. We miss her too as she was part of the Board of Directors during
the time she cared for her late mother, JOAN PRATER, who passed away
on May 11, 2022 at the age of 94. JOAN served as Board President in1999,
twenty-five years ago! Her birthday would have been on March 3rd.
We missed seeing some members and friends at our last dinner
meeting and hope you are all OK. Please let us know if we can help in any
way. Email stvos@whidbey.net and let Tom, our President, and his
wonderful wife, Sharon, know how you are.
The time to be Happy is NOW
a book of Inspirations
by Kathy Davis
Celebrate the simple pleasures
Awaken to nature’s beauty
Rejoice in small miracles
Smile at a stranger
Hug the one you love
Be good to yourself
Build your bridge
Sing your song
Mark your mark
Don’t forget to fly
Stop waiting for Tomorrow
The time to be happy
Is
Now.
Whatever you do,
or dream you can,
BEGIN it.
—Goethe, 1749-1932
May your Sights be set
on the Stars,
May your Spirits soar
up to the Sky,
And may your Feet
always be on the ground.
May you Live
all the days
of your life.
—Jonathan Swift, 1667-1845
Rich as he is,
not even the emperor
can buy back
one single day
—Chinese proverb
Rich are they
who treasure
simple
joys.
The past is history.
The future a mystery.
But today is a gift
which is why
it is called
the
PRESENT.
To me, every hour of the day and night is an unspeakable, perfect
MIRACLE.
—Walt Whitman, 1819-1892
All of the
flowers
of
tomorrow
are in the
seeds of
today.
We look forward to seeing you and your neighbors or guests at the
March Membership Dinner Meeting on Friday the 8th. Board Member-at-
Large John Gevaert was able to invite the speakers to come and be our
guests. It will be a great program. Take good care and stay safe.
